Job Description

Job Description
You will be part of Altera Software and Solutions (SaS) DevOps Team also known as SPES.
SPES is looking for a highly skilled and experienced DevOps & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer. In this role, you will be shaping and tuning the Altera’s next generation software development lifecycle automation and its infrastructure, because a nimble and agile software development lifecycle results in a competitive advantage for the organization and the customer it serves.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum 8 years of experience in the field of DevOps, with a strong background in cloud infrastructure management and automation. Key responsibility of this DevOps and Cloud Infrastructure specialist is to lead and drive our transition from legacy DevOps environment into cloud based next generation platform and framework. This candidate must be comfortable to be the change-agent and a technology evangelist to influence, guide, mentor and hand-hold software development teams in their migration journey.
In summary, the DevOps Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing our next-generation development and deployment processes, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across the infrastructure.
This is a role for someone who aspires to grow into Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role within the next 4-5 years.
A SRE is an advanced DevOps role that combines software engineering and systems administration to ensure the scalability, performance, and reliability of large-scale, cloud-based applications and infrastructure.
Traditional operations roles focus on maintaining systems and reacting to issues, often with a “firefighting” mentality. However, as applications and infrastructure became complex and cloud-based – a more proactive and software-centric approach was needed to ensure reliability at scale.

By combining software engine+ systems administration, SREs brings a different mindset to operations. They approached operations challenges with a software engineering perspective, leveraging:
• Coding
• Automation
• Engineering Principles

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s/Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in a DevOps role, with a strong focus on infrastructure management
• Proven experience with Cloud Platforms and Solutions, such as Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure
• Specifically advanced knowledge in Azure (EntraID, user management, secret management, compute and storage usage)
• Advanced experience in GitHub including Enterprise. It would be desirable if the candidate can demonstrate Perforce experience and experience in migrating software development between these environments
• Strong understanding of containerization technologies like Docker and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef

• Strong test-driven-development (TDD) background, with Object-Oriented Design Principles
• Highly familiar with developer productivity tooling (VSCode, linters, auto-formatters, pre-commit hooks)
• Cloud application developer traits such as building and publishing containers, deploying containers to kubernetes, uServices architectures
• Solid communication skills with peers and management

• Infrastructure as Code, using Terraform, or technology-specific languages such as Azure Bicep
• Knowledge in Jenkins
• Leveraging tools and writing automation around deployment and validation of these deployments (automating Infra-as-Code and triggering validation)
• Configuration as Code for GitHub Actions or Jenkins
• Python, C++, and shell languages like bash. PowerShell, and the dreaded Windows Batch
• Monitoring tools, and how to aggregate data to them
• Dashboard tools
• Database design and management
• Bonus: Front-end web dev (but really, that isn’t ideal for an SRE to focus on)
